Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Field Technician is an entry level position that assists the field crews with mountain-based work, and scientific crews with field data collection and entry. This is a full-time position for the 2023 exploration season, approximately May to October.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Mountain Crew with the construction of drill pads, waterline support, trails, brushing and clearing.
  • Assist Mountain or scientific crews with field survey support.
  • Provide support to consultants or Environmental with monitoring, instrument checks, weather station, data logging, and spreadsheets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High-school diploma required; advanced education is a plus.
  • No experience necessary; on the job training provided.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to repetitively lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work in a variety of weather conditions.
  • This is a highly physical job, in varied and sometimes demanding work in difficult terrain. All potential employees will be required to pass a physical assessment.
  • Basic computer skills including spreadsheets and data entry a plus.
  • Mechanical aptitude with carpentry, and experience with power tools is a plus.
  • Previous experience working in and around helicopters is a plus.
  • Self-motivation with good attention to detailed procedures and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather and glaciated, mountainous terrain.
  • Proactive and collaborative attitude, committed to working in a team environment based on respect, trust and accountability in pursuing shared goals.
  • Mindset that factors personnel safety, environmental protection, and community commitment into every decision and action.
  • Effective communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
  • Self-motivation with good attention to detail.
  • Valid driver license with clean driving record.
  • All new employees must pass a background check.
  • Valid standard first aid certification a plus.

SCHEDULE

Work hours generally begin at 7:00 AM; schedule and rotations to be discussed.

PAY RATE

We offer competitive wages dependent upon experience and qualifications.

LOCATION

Palmer Project camp near Haines, Alaska (7.5 Mile Porcupine Road). Camp accommodation and meals are provided. Additional consideration for daily commuting may be available to residents of the Chilkat Valley on an individual basis.
